IndiGo bagged the sixth rank in the global punctuality list of mega airlines, while Delhi airport took the 13th in the top 20 punctuality list for mega airports, according to data released by OAG, a UK based air travel intelligence company.

While mega airports are those which handle over 3 crore passengers annually, other Indian airports, like Hyderabad and Bengaluru, featured in the top 20 list of large airports, those that handle 1-2 crore passengers annually. While Hyderabad took the 13th rank, Bengaluru took the 16th slot.

The only other Indian aviation company that made it to the list was AirAsia India, which came in at number 12 on the top 200 low-cost carrier (LCC) punctuality list. IndiGo which had an ‘on-time performance’ of 82% was seventh on the LCC top 20 list. In the mega airlines top 20 list, where IndiGo came in sixth, the top three slots were taken by Chile’s LATAM airlines group, followed by Japan’s All Nippon Airways in the second place and Japan airlines in the third place.

OAG’s definition of on-time performance was flights that arrive or depart within 15 minutes of their scheduled arrival/departure times. Airline OTP was for arrivals only. So, a flight could depart late and arrive on time, if the pilots go for an increased cruise speed or if the airline has listed a block time that factored in some delay.
